Painting in my favorite colors, my work represents florals, wildlife and landscapes. Formal studies began in 1961 with design courses at the University of Miami. During the early 1990s I renewed my interest in art at the original Dianne Mize Studio in Clarkesville, Georgia, often working in charcoal and graphite. Since 1995, I have concentrated on watercolor using vivid, transparent pigments.  The tropical hues of Coral Gables, Florida, where I spent the first half of my life, are often reflected in the colors I use. A great appreciation for the intricacies of nature has directed most of my painting. Travel throughout the United States, Canada and Europe also has provided a variety of reference material.

I’ve had the opportunity to learn from watercolorists Nita Engle and Cheng-Khee Chee at invitational workshops. I organize and participate in Art Immersion Workshops in Sautee, Georgia. Among the guests artists have been watercolorists , Tony Couch, Arleta Pech, Don Andrews, Charles Reid and pastel artist Maggie Price.

In 1973, my family moved from Florida to Lake Burton in the mountains of Northeast Georgia, where we owned and participated in a marina, craft shop, and real estate business while raising three children.  My first venture into the world of painting was during the 1960s designing and painting needlepoint canvases for friends and family to stitch. This later became a popular business.  Since 2002, my husband and I have been living on Lynch Mountain overlooking the Sautee Valley and the Appalachian Trail.

My paintings are available through me or my website, www.cswhitney.com; Burton Gallery and Emporium at Lake Burton, Georgia; the Georgia Heritage Center for the Arts in Tallulah Falls, Georgia, and The Center Gallery in Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia.  My work can be found in private and corporate collections in this country and in international private collections.  Professional affiliations include the Southeastern Pastel Society, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Southern Watercolor Society, Georgia Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, and the American Watercolor Society.
